Product description

Omegon 6x30 finder scope - for locating astronomical objects more easily

You are standing under the stars at night. The Milky Way paints a broad white band across the sky. Somewhere up there are thousands and thousands of objects - but how to find them easily in your telescope? This precisely is what the Skywatcher 6x30 finder scope is for.

The optics are 18 times better than your eye

You cannot see most astronomical objects with your naked eye. Looking through the finder scope gives you 18X more light, allowing many astronomical objects to become visible to your eye. The 6x30 finder scope has a small 30mm aperture objective and 6X magnification - an extremely useful little telescope.

Large field of view plus crosshairs

The Skywatcher finder scope gives you a wide field of view to make locating objects that much easier. Imagine you have the telescope roughly, not yet precisely, pointed at object. The large field of view means you can already see the object at the edge of the image. The built-in crosshairs now come to your aid. They let you move the object exactly into the centre of the image which means it is also already accurately centred in the main telescope.

Screws for convenient adjustment

This small finder scope has three small adjustment screws which let you align it with your main telescope in just a few minutes.

The advantages in a nutshell:

  • 6x30 finder scope with fine crosshairs
  • 18X more light than the naked eye alone
  • find objects in the shortest possible time
  • some deep sky objects are visible
  • large field of view for easy location of objects

The optics are the key - 18 times better than your eye alone

You cannot see most astronomical objects with just your naked eye. Looking through the finder scope provides 18X more light, letting you see a much larger number of objects. The 6x30 finder scope has 30mm aperture lens and provides 6X magnification. So it's a real small telescope with big advantages.

Wide field of view with crosshairs

The Omegon finder scope has a wide field of view to make locating objects easier. Imagine you have an object approximately located, but not exactly positioned. The wide field of view allows you to already see the object at the edge of the field of view. Now you the built-in crosshairs come into play. You simply align the object in the centre with the crosshairs and the object will be located precisely in the main telescope's field of view.

Screws for easy adjustment

In order for your small finder scope finds to locate what you are looking for, it has three small handy adjustment screws. These allow alignment with the main instrument to be carried out in just a few minutes.

The advantages in a nutshell

  • 6x30 finder scope with fine crosshairs
  • simple orientation - the finder scope provides an upright, non-reversed image
  • 18X more light than the naked eye alone
  • locate objects as quickly as possible
  • some deep sky objects will already be visible
  • large field of view for easy location
  • for all Vixen/Skywatcher/Celestron-style finder shoes

Not good quality

I bought this to replace a crappy 8x20 finder than came with my scope, wanting a bigger field and brighter image. Compared to that, it does both... but the FOV still isn't very large. No wonder that it isn't advertised in the specs; a binocular with similar price would state the field of view.

For 50€ I would have thought that the quality was better though. The unit I got had a weird lens shaped exit pupil, so I unscrewed the eyepiece and saw that a plastic part holding the erecting prism had been assembled bad and was blocking some of the light. It was easy enough to pull the prism out and snap the part in place, but I shouldn't have to do that. Did I mention that the prism was not coated in any way? And the roof of the prism was not sharp, rather nasty looking in fact - luckily it is far from the focal plane and with the low magnification it isn't really noticeable in use (I wouldn't have known if I hadn't disassembled the thing in the first place).

I'm giving 2 stars anyway because the supplied holder is a nice cast alloy piece with a spring loaded peg holding the finderscope against the adjustment screws, making alignment a breeze.
