The Omegon pro Taurus GM-60 is a completely new mount - 'Made in Germany' - to the highest precision. This piece of engineering art makes your astrophotography dreams come true. It offers an enormous load bearing capacity of up to 60 kg of photographic equipment and very high worm gear rotary precision (of +/- 2.5”). The Taurus GM-60 can even carry a 16” SC tube as well as associated photographic equipment. These features make this mount a 'MUST' for every ambitious amateur astronomer and astrophotographer.
Ideal basis
The Omegon pro Taurus GM-60 is the ideal basis for a private or club observatory. With its relatively low weight of only 32 kg it is still portable. This means you can easily transport this 'observatory mount' to an observing location of your choice in a car. All the mechanical components are manufactured from the highest quality materials. Even the drilled holes for the polar elevation adjustment are fitted with sintered bushes to avoid abrasion or damage.
Highest stability and strength
The dimensions and design of the components guarantee the highest stability and strength. Immaculate and exact workmanship to the closest tolerances results in outstanding precision in the construction of this mount. The mount sets new yardsticks in tried and tested worm gear drive technology.
SECM 264 stepper motors
The SECM 264 or also the SECM 4 stepper motors and the 2X planetary gears mean clean and quiet operation. You will only hear a gentle humming noise, and that is all. The Taurus GM-60 can be run from a stabilized 12V to 40V supply. The advantage is a higher slewing speed with this mount.
Precision encoder
The precision encoders on each axis permit the most precise object positioning possible. They can find a target so accurately that it will be found in the camera's field of view. This is what really makes astrophotography fun. Simply decide whether you want to find an object manually or with the GoTo option. Alignment will not be lost if you release the axis locks and manually move the mount in its axes.
New locking technology
The axis locks do not put any pressure on the worm gears. This is another reason for the accuracy of this mount. The locking can be finely adjusted so that it acts as a slipper clutch. Simply enjoy your observing, overtightening the locks (as can happen with some other mounts) is no longer an issue. Sophisticated new technology is used for the construction of mount. The axes are held firmly in place without the need for an overly strong clamping action.
SKY wooden tripod with carbon composite
The Taurus GM-60 comes with a Berlebach SKY wooden tripod. This tripod has been specially manufactured for the high demands of ambitious amateur astronomers. The tripod offers maximum vibration suppression and has extremely high torsional stiffness. The SKY tripod can support a load of up to 140 kg, and amazingly only weighs 9 kg itself.
FS-2 control system
The Taurus GM-60 is operated by an Astro-Elektronik FS-2 control system. This uses micro-steppers for high-precision operation of the motors. The five large keys on the hand control are also easy operated with gloves on. The 16 digit display has a red background illumination, which can be set to the brightness required. The FS-2 system has full GoTo functionality of course: all 109 Messier objects, a good selection of NGC and IC objects (over 3800), 168 bright stars, the sun and planets, and direct input of declination and right ascension are included. Naturally, you can also operate the Taurus mount directly from a PC.
Taurus GM-60 Split box
The split box is necessary for installation and has been designed for the FS-2 control system. It is also possible to adapt the split box for use with other, compatible, control systems. There are several output connections from the FS-2 controller for encoders/motors, which are connected to a single 15 a pole D-SUB connector in the hand control - meaning cable clutter has become a thing of the past.
Multiple connectability
The mount can be optionally equipped with either a 3” prism mounting plate (Losmandy style) or with a 'basic' GP mounting plate. These then allow the telescope to be set directly onto the mount.
With a 3” prism mounting plate and a counterbalancing parallel mounting plate of 370 mm or 500 mm (this can also be made to measure) two telescopes can be mounted next to each other extremely stably. This is a very important feature for astrophotography.
