Pentaprism - natural orientation of the telescope with 90° viewing angle and ultra-bright images

The Omegon Pentaprism is a five-sided prism for refractors and catadioptric telescopes. It shows you an inverted image, as if you were looking through a telescope without a prism. However, with this prism you can observe comfortably and without any physical contortions - with 90° or 45° viewing angle (depending on the version). This is a great help with orienting yourself in the night sky - especially when working with the Moon and star charts!

The advantages in a nutshell

  • natural orientation in 90° - observe through your telescope as if you were looking straight through a refractor telescope
  • observer-friendly - easy to orient yourself with Moon and star maps
  • 29mm optical aperture - use of long eyepiece focal lengths and wide fields of view without any vignetting
  • 120mm optical path
  • better image than with an Amici prism
  • 90° exact optical angle - no matter what the angle of incidence
  • 1.25" spring lock and filter thread

Provides orientation with the Moon and star maps

You can easily lose your orientation when trying to find your way in the night sky. This is particularly difficult when using lunar maps, but also with some star maps. One has to mentally compensate for the upright but reversed image created by a star diagonal in order to recognize a particular lunar crater - not always very easy! Using a pentaprism means you do not do this anymore. Simply turn the star map 180 degrees and you have the right orientation.

High contrast with ultra bright images

BK-7 glass, dielectric mirrors and multi-coated optical surfaces - these three technical features are the reason for brilliant and clear images with particularly high brightness. And the image is even than with a good Amici prism. This is due to the pentaprism's unique design - edges that would degrade the image in other prisms are not a problem here. The pentaprism is a single optical work of art.

No vignetting - a free view with no darkening of the edge of the field of view

You can use long focal length eyepieces or wide fields of view. A big advantage - the 29mm optical aperture means nothing limits a clear view of the night sky.

Anodized housing with low-reflection blackening

Inside, the prism back is blackened and the housing is light-tight - meaning high contrast is maintained and observing is always a pleasure.

Pentraprism - a professional aid for astronomical observing

When it comes to the correct astronomical orientation of a map, the pentaprism is a real boon to observers. This is due to the fact that the image orientation is the same as it would be for a refractor. A Pentaprism is a five-sided prism with two highly reflective reflecting surfaces. Incoming light always makes a right angle - regardless of whether the angle is oblique or direct.
