Illuminated Earth-Moon-Sun orrery
This model demonstrates the path of the Earth and Moon around the Sun. By looking at this illuminated model of the Earth and Moon, impressive natural phenomena - such as solar and lunar eclipses - can be demonstrated in a way that is very simple to understand. The motion of the Earth-Moon system model is manually operated, allowing phenomena to be followed at a comfortable speed.
Simple operation
The models of the Moon and Earth are mounted on an arm, which serves as a handle extension from the other side of the model of the Sun. The motion of the entire system is controlled by hand using this handle. It lets you move as fast or slow as you want and also allows you to repeat demonstrations of phenomena as often as you like.
This orrery can demonstrate day and night, the seasons, and solar and lunar eclipses in way that is very easy to follow. It can be used to help solve many other questions such as:
- why does it alternate between day and night?
- when and where on earth is it summer and winter at any time?
- what is a month exactly?
- in which orientation can we see the moon from the earth - either partially, fully or not at all?
