Product description

The Omegon Light Pollution Filter is a type of broadband filter. Its effectiveness makes it universally applicable. The broad passband allows star clusters, galaxies, nebulae and comets to be better observed. However, it also filters out annoying artificial light such as street lighting.

Both the Omegon UHC and Omegon OIII filters are limited in their application to a few objects. The Omegon Light Pollution Filter is therefore more useful for generally increasing the contrast of faint objects, without filtering out the spectrum of possible observing targets.

The Omegon Light Pollution Filter is not only useful at light-polluted sites; the contrast is also increased at dark sky sites.

The advantages in a nutshell:

  • a first filter for those on a tight budget
  • very suitable for smaller telescopes
  • can also be used for astrophotography
  • stars are not as strongly coloured as with a narrowband filter

Customer reviews

Works great for visual astronomy

Review by V. R. on 14.10.2022 16:20:28

For my area it works great. Cuts out light like butter. I dont know nor I care about astrophotography but this filter seems quite good for visual.

The orion nebula did looked slightly dimmer than without filter, but the sky was much blacker with it.

Its my only filter so I cant be objective if its great or good in comparison but as first filter it gets the job done.

Antireflective coating

Please note, this low cost filter is not "antireflection" coated.
A cheap copy of the Baader Neodymium

Pay attention to the chart

I made a mistake of learning how to read the wavelength chart after buying the filter.
this filter is dedicated to remove a certain wavelength around 580mm and 490nm, which means that this filter can help you if your city is using Hight Pressure Sodium lights. If, on the other hand, you city uses White LED lights, that peak around 450nm, then this filter will not do the job.
