The Equinox ED telescope is built to very high optical and mechanical standards. The aperture and 900mm focal length make it a compact telescope suitable for both astronomical observing and for daylight or twilight nature watching.
The cemented lens, which includes an ED element, reduces chromatic aberration to such an extent that it could not even be detected during test observing. Excellent contrast is achieved even at high magnifications. The lenses have been vacuum multi-coated (and have the usual green reflective tint), ensuring very high light transmission and a bright, high-contrast image.
The Interior of the telescope has been painted mat black to suppress internal reflections.
Sensitive focusing is provided via a high-quality ball-bearing Crayford focuser. The focuser has a 1:10 reduction ratio, allowing focus changes down to a tenth of a millimetre or so. This is especially important at higher magnifications for visual observing and particular for (astro)photography.
The focuser has an adjustment range of around 80mm which allows an extensive range of accessories to be used with it. A graduated scale on the focuser lets you quickly readjust to the correct focus range once this has been established.
The telescope has a 2" connector with a reducer for 1.25" accessories, with both sizes fitted with a compression ring. This means eyepieces are clamped around the entire barrel, avoiding damage to them.
Unlike some similar instruments the Equinox comes easily into focus for photography, without the need to use additional extenders or focal reducers, which means photography remains fun - whether terrestrial or astronomical.
This very attractive instrument has a dew shield which can be pulled out for observing sessions. This prevents dew forming on the lens on humid nights and also provides protection against stray-light. The exterior diameter of the OTA, measured at the dew shield, is 12.5cm.
The Equinox has a ¼" thread for attaching to a camera tripod. The OTA also has a prism rail, allowing the Equinox 100 to be attached to all standard Skywatcher or GP mounts (e.g. EQ-3, EQ-5, HEQ-5, EQ-6, GP2, GP2, Giro, etc.).
In accordance with its high quality, the Equinox 100 comes supplied with a sturdy lockable aluminium storage case.
