Product description

More about the series EQ-5...

This telescope is also available as complete set for beginners - big savings!

N 200/1000 telescope:

With a 200mm aperture, this telescope opens up new details in deep sky observing for the observer as compared to smaller telescopes. With 78% more light gathering ability compared to a 150mm telescope, even the delicate spiral arms of many galaxies and additional structures in other nebulae can be observed. Globular clusters, such as the famous M13 cluster in Hercules, can be resolved at their edges to a large degree. The parabolic primary mirror is diffraction limited, allowing sharp images of the object. The very high-contrast optics are optimised by the use of a small secondary mirror and thin secondary mirror spider vanes, allowing sharp and bright planetary observing even at higher magnification. The OTA has a solid 2-inch Crayford focuser for a low image shift focusing - of particular importance at high magnifications and for astrophotography. The use of 2 inch eyepieces allows the maximum possible field of view to be exploited. The telescope has an f5 aperture ratio, putting it in the class of 'fast' Newtonian telescopes, so this telescope is particularly well suited to astrophotography.

The OTA is also visually a real gem, featuring an elegant design for the both OTA and finder scope in an aesthetically pleasing shimmering black.

The advantages in a nutshell:

  • relatively high light gathering power thanks to 200mm aperture
  • resistant to the effects of vibration and wind
  • diffraction limited parabolic primary mirror
  • high-contrast image due to thin secondary mirror spider vanes and small secondary mirror
  • well suited to astrophotography due to the 'fast' optics

The NEQ-5 mount:

This mount is a further development of the EQ-5, in a white design. It provides a solid platform for most large telescopes and is excellent for exploring the night sky. Once you have aligned the parallactic mount on the Pole Star, you can easily sight on an object, position it in the field of view, and track it using the slow motion control knobs provided. Fine adjustment is possible in right ascension and declination. The polar elevation at the observing site can be set using the fine scale provided and adjusted perfectly by using two screws. Both a polar finder and electric motors for both axes plus a control unit can be retrofitted: the NEQ-5 is suitable not only for visual observing, but also for getting started in astrophotography. Long exposure astrophotography is also possible with the optional upgrades available, such as the motor kit or the GoTo kit. With a little practice, you will soon be able to produce successful images of galaxies and nebulae.

Excited, Thank You

Review by O. L. on 17.04.2013 21:57:21

Hi,

I just received this "monster" and I am happy and excited. Thanks to astroshop providing such great machine even outside Germany. I tried amazon, but they do not send to Finland.

The telescope feels solid in most of the parts, mounting is really steady, easy to assemble, to use screws, knobs and etc.
I am still learning this "monster". I am excited to the top. I have not observed so much yet, but after assembling it I understood it makes a much bigger difference what I had before. This is not for amateur anymore. But it is also great for amateur as well if they want to dig deeper in the sky.
But we aware that this "monster" requires space and careful treatment :)

Finderscope feels a bit childish, no wonder the whole product is made in china. they like cheap cheap.
Anyway, as i said it is great product and I am more than happy that astroshop provides such delivery to Finland.

One thing outside this rating is that the local Finnish delivery companies tried to deliver it during working hours before 16.00 hours to my house even not calling me or making some advance notes. I do not see any point to make such agreements with them for astroshop if there is any. Why loosing money. Just deliver to Post. Finally I picked up my items from Post anyway, just waisted time with those small companies, calling them, wondering where my items are and etc.

Thanks!

Best regards,

Happy Customer

A reliable scope

Although I'm quite fresh in this area, I have to say that I found excellent quality in all the parts of this scope. I'm surprised of the sharp images I can get with no big skills. I recommend this product to other amateurs.
