Product description

A polar wedge allows an azimuth mount to be used as a parallactic mount. The mount is tilted so that the azimuth axis is parallel to the Earth's axis. This allows the Earth's rotation to be compensated for by continuous rotation around this axis. In the case of Dobson telescopes, this is also referred to as an EQ platform. The entire Dobson telescope is simply placed on this inclined platform. The angle of inclination must match the latitude of the observation site.

The Dobson platforms from TMS-Astro are unique because they offer a variety of additional features and functions that are not available on platforms from other manufacturers. The platforms are not only available in a version for visual observation (short exposure possible), but also in a photographic version with declination drive, suitable for use with an autoguider!

  • In visual mode , the upper plate moves to the start position after the control unit is switched on and the tracking routine starts automatically. When the tracking time has elapsed, an acoustic signal sounds and the control unit waits for 12 seconds. If no button is pressed during these 12 seconds, the upper plate returns to the start position and the tracking routine starts again. Otherwise, the platform will not reset itself. In this case, you can initiate movement to the start position by pressing and holding the white button (for at least 2 seconds).
  • In photo mode , the declination axis moves to the reference position after the controller is switched on and returns to the centre position as soon as it reaches it. At the same time, the RA axis begins its routine to move to the home position. When both axes have reached the start position, the tracking routine begins. When the tracking time has elapsed, the sequence is the same as in visual mode.

Note: Photo mode is only active when the declination axis is connected, i.e. not with this visual version.

Pole alignment: The built-in compass and spirit level help to roughly align the platform. When the bubble in the spirit level is in the centre, the platform is aligned with the centre of the segment's working area. The adjustable feet allow you to change the pole angle. To achieve a higher angle, raise the front (pole-facing) feet of the platform or lower the rear (pole-facing) feet.
Now you can place the telescope on the Dobson platform and switch it on with the main switch on the control unit, whereupon the platform will return to its starting position. Tracking will then begin automatically.
