Frosty winter nights are a dream: clear air, fascinating celestial objects and the sun far below the northern horizon. If only it weren't so bitterly cold!
Our tip: use a coverall like those used in industrial cold stores. In this arctic climate, employees need to feel comfortable and be able to move freely during their eight-hour shift. Workwear specialist Planam offers a coverall for these extreme conditions with many advantages that you as an astronomer will also benefit from:
- Practical: left breast pocket, two patch side pockets with flaps, left sleeve pocket with zip compartment
- Comfortable: side zip with flap for easy entry, full-length front zip with backing, patch knee pad pockets
- Safety: reflective tape on the waist and legs
- Cold protection: Certified to EN 342:2004, thermal resistance class 3
The 3M Thinsulate Insulation is used here – a modern fibre technology that sets new standards with its functional and insulating properties. The combination of single-layer polyester padding and two-layer 3M Thinsulate Insulation creates a material combination that is second to none. The cold doesn't stand a chance!
Outer material: 100% nylon, Oxford; filling: 100% polyester, wadding, colour: marine with red inner lining
Compared to our winterproof Astro overalls, these frost-proof overalls are designed for even colder temperatures and keep you reliably warm and comfortable even during the longest, coldest nights of observation.
These suits were originally made for working in cold stores, where temperatures can drop to a freezing -49°C. This also increases the demands on the warming shell. The filling has a total density of 320 g/m² and a class 2 air permeability rating. This means that the cold really doesn't stand a chance.
