Omegon Pro HM31Pro EQ/AZ: When every arcsecond counts
The Omegon Pro HM31Pro EQ/AZ is a Strainwave mount designed for astrophotographers who want a compact setup. You don’t need a tablet or Smartphone to operate it directly – there’s no need to connect one first. Closed-loop motors with encoders, improved cable management and precise polar alignment make this a premium mount. It’s wonderfully easy to use, yet offers all the features astrophotographers could wish for. But see for yourself …
Key benefits at a glance
- Standalone GOTO control via hand controller and OnStep control: no tablet or mini-PC required

- Smart cable management directly at the prism clamp
- High-quality construction made of CNC-machined aluminium and carbon fibre
- EQ and Alt-Az modes for astrophotography and visual observation
Standalone GOTO for independent astrophotography
Many modern mounts nowadays only work in conjunction with apps or tablets. The Omegon Pro HM31Pro EQ/AZ, however, takes a different approach: thanks to its standalone OnStep Goto control and handcontroller, you can work independently and directly on the mount. This means: simply switch it on and point it at objects. Just as it should be.
But that’s not all: the mount remains compatible with popular software or apps such as ASIAIR or N.I.N.A. So you can simply decide for yourself how you want to work – directly or with software.
Precise polar alignment without the hassle
Polar alignment is often one of the most time-consuming steps in astrophotography. With many mounts, the axis shifts slightly again when the screws are tightened – just when the alignment was already perfect. This leads to frustration that you’d rather do without at night. The Omegon Pro HM31Pro EQ/AZ solves this problem with a patented adjustment system featuring fine-tuning. Whatever settings you apply stay exactly where they should be.
At the same time, you retain complete flexibility in choosing your method. You decide whether to use an app solution with an astro camera or a separate electronic pole finder mounted on the front mount. Who knows what you’ll want to be doing in astrophotography in five years’ time? The HM31Pro adapts to your preferences and doesn’t force you into a closed system.
Smooth tracking for long exposures
Inside the Omegon Pro HM31Pro EQ/AZ is a modern closed-loop drive system with encoders. In plain terms: the motor control system monitors all the mount’s movements very precisely and knows exactly where it is at all times. This ensures the mount operates with exceptional precision, resulting in excellent tracking performance. The HM31Pro really comes into its own with longer focal lengths and deep-sky photography. These are the ideal conditions for successful and straightforward guiding of long-exposure images.
Premium portable mount for complete setups
The Omegon Pro HM31Pro EQ/AZ combines a high load capacity with a compact design. Weighing just 4 kilograms, it can support loads of up to 17 kilograms – entirely without counterweights. This keeps your mount conveniently portable. Ideal for mobile astrophotography or when travelling under dark skies.
But how does it achieve this? It’s down to a high-quality construction made of CNC-machined aluminium, the sort used in the aerospace industry. It also features carbon fibre components and a design with short lever arms. The distance between the RA axis and the prism clamp has been deliberately kept short. This allows the mount to be compact and lightweight whilst still supporting heavy loads.
A mount for astrophotography and visual observation
Simply decide whether you want to observe in azimuth or equatorial mode tonight. The Omegon Pro HM31Pro EQ/AZ offers both in a single mount. As well as the ‘classic’ equatorial mode for astrophotography, you can enjoy relaxed visual observation in AZ mode. If you love both, you don’t have to choose between them or even buy two separate mounts.
Particularly handy: the high load-bearing capacity is maintained even in AZ mode. This means you can mount larger telescopes or even a pair of large binoculars.
Observation with large binoculars
With optional accessories, the Omegon Pro HM31Pro EQ/AZ is also suitable for observation with large binoculars. This is because it offers a special top-mounted AZ mode. This means that your instrument is not mounted to the side, but above the mount. This allows you to observe from an ergonomically comfortable position. At the same time, the load-bearing capacity is maintained because the weight is centred above the axis and does not pull on the mechanism from the side. This means you can mount even heavy large binoculars and control them with ease.
