When a multi-coloured disc spins very quickly, the eye perceives new and often surprising colours as a result of the mixing.
This is the principle behind the well-known colour wheel invented at the Bauhaus in Weimar in 1922 and also behind our new mechanical colour mixer. The difference: with ours, the rotation does not stop after a few seconds.
A double-handled crank (for different speeds) and a 6:1 gear ratio bring the colour disc up to 30 revolutions per second, and it can run for as long as you like. This not only allows you to test a wide variety of colour mixtures, but with the black and white Benham disc you can even create colours where none were visible before.
The 10 discs included allow you to quickly start your own experiments, for which you can easily create your own colour and black-and-white discs – an almost irresistible invitation to let your imagination run wild!
