The JMI Smart Focus System allows remote control of a JMI focuser or a Motofocus unit via computer software. Well-known CCD programs can also be used to automatically focus a CCD camera.
The system includes a hand control box, an AC adapter, focuser and encoder cables, and a serial cable for connection to a computer. Simple focusing software is also included. The hand control box has two direction buttons for focusing, a speed setting and the necessary electrical connections. It is powered by a 9V block battery (included).
The motor/encoder cable connects the hand box to the focuser and its encoder or the Motofocus. The serial cable is used to connect to the PC. The software is compatible with Windows 95/98/NT/2000/XP.
Thanks to the modular design of the JMI EV focusers, they can also be upgraded with the Smart Focus System at a later date.
Please note:
Smart Focus requires a DRO encoder on a motorised JMI focuser or MOTOFOCUS. After installing the encoder unit, it can be connected to Smart Focus or the DRO. Smart Focus requires a PC, while DRO can also be used on its own. The Smart Focus system includes a power adapter, connection cable and basic software.
Smart Focus can only work correctly with MOTOFOCUS if no slip clutch is installed. If your current MOTOFOCUS system has a slip clutch, a JMI conversion kit is available. Smart Focus is not suitable for systems with motorised main mirror focusing (Schmidt-Cassegrain, etc.), as the mirror shifting prevents the Smart Focus system from learning correctly.
