Product description

The Baader C2 SWAN-Band-Filter isolates the two C2 lines at 511 and 514nm.

These two emission lines, named Swan bands after their discoverer, dominate the spectrum of a comet's gas tail in the visible range. The filter allows only the light from the two carbon bands to pass through and, among other things, blocks the ubiquitous stray light, similar to a nebula filter in deep-sky observation. Structures in the gas tail thus become clearer even under good observing conditions.

At the same time, it completely blocks the OIII line at 501nm and below, which other Swan-Band filters allow to pass. This allows for even higher contrast, and comets with gas tails can be distinguished even better from those dominated by a dust tail (and where a SWAN filter provides only a small contrast enhancement).

For ambitious comet observers, a SWAN filter is part of the basic equipment.

Lovely piece of Glass and Costumer Service

This is why Astroshop is my favourite Astronomy Retail Shop in the entire Europe!
Beside of having a great variety of products such is this, the costumer service provided is an example. About six months ago I've decided to acquire this filter to my collection of astronomy glasses, with the hopes of start my comet hunting journey beside the astrophotrography work that I've been doing. The options where Lumicon and Baader, and since I was already a costumer of Baader products, the filter seemed to be the best choice, and it was! I'm super pleased with him! It delivers the two Swand C2 bands as advertized!
Problem was: The shipping servie of my country is the worst of the worst and they lost about two packages with the order made through Astroshop. This is the part that the costumer service of the retail store is important on this review! The portuguese branch in my country took care of the situation after I talked with Joao Martins, and after a few arranjments, I had the opportunity to have this filter as well my order completed! This is an exemple of service that we costumers are looking for.
I can say that Nimax GmbH group have a faithfull costumer here and the portuguese Astroshop branch is an exemple for the company itself.
