Precise centring in the telescope's optical path improves the performance of the entire optical system. This is particularly advantageous for astrophotography. Many other adaptors simply use a knurled screw for attachment. The uneven pressure of the screw causes the barrel adaptor to become misaligned. The Orion precision centring adaptor, on the other hand, applies even pressure and thus maintains the centring: After inserting an eyepiece, collimator or other 1.25-inch accessory, simply turn the upper knurled ring clockwise and two steel rollers move towards the exact centre of the optical axis, so that the accessory is both precisely centred and securely attached.
