This volume of the Space Flight Library deals with the direct successor programme to Mercury, the Gemini project.
The aim of this project was to further develop astronautical developments and knowledge in order to meet the immense demands that the Apollo project, which was already in the planning stage, would bring with it. The rockets were now considerably more powerful, and with the two-seater Gemini spacecraft, NASA managed to catch up with the Soviets and eventually even surpass them with a record-breaking flight lasting more than ten days and successful docking manoeuvres.
The author Eugen Reichl was a long-time employee of a major international manufacturer of launch vehicles and space flight propulsion systems. He is the author of numerous highly regarded publications on space flight and space flight history.
