- Provides an overview of the development of space flight
- Compiles various milestones in the exploration of the solar system
- Shows international cooperation in the history of space travel
The exploration of near-Earth and interplanetary space has only been made possible by the pioneering spirit of theorists and the courage of practitioners who believed in their ideas. This book traces the development of space flight: from the beginnings of rocket technology to the first manned space flight with Yuri Gagarin, followed by multiple orbits of the Earth, parallel flights with several capsules, the first woman in space, a cosmonaut exiting his capsule and manual rendezvous manoeuvres, as well as the moon landings. International cooperation is evident in the construction and use of the ISS, the only permanently manned space station.
The book also offers a look at Mars missions and probe expeditions within the solar system and concludes with a brief overview of current future projects.
