Our galactic home as a poster, didactically prepared and vividly illustrated.
The poster impresses with its large panorama, which shows the visual impression of the Milky Way as a shimmering band in the night sky. The most striking constellations, stars and selected celestial objects are marked on it.
Additional individual cards show the image of the galaxy in four other wavelength ranges and explain its physical significance. Furthermore, texts, photos and graphics deepen our understanding of our cosmic home: a journey from our solar system through the Milky Way to neighbouring galaxies vividly conveys the distances and structure of the universe.
The schematic map in the centre shows exactly where our Sun and nearby celestial objects are located in the galaxy and provides an overview of the spiral arms. While these rotate around the centre of the Milky Way over millions of years, the objects within them go through their own life cycles. This development of stars and nebulae and their interrelationships are explained and illustrated using well-known deep sky objects.
