Product description

High-speed camera using 59 frames per second - makes the planets even sharper

The Touptek G3M178C camera is changing the way people will photograph nebulae and planets in the future. At 59 frames per second, the new high-speed camera is now 3 times faster (compared to the 51382), but is equally sensitive. This ensures even sharper planetary photos, as atmospheric turbulence has no chance of blurring the picture.

It boasts a high 6.4 megapixels resolution and a large chip area. This camera is also excellent for deep sky objects as its 14-bit dynamics ensure exposures have more dynamic range - making your photos even more beautiful. This camera lets your astronomy photos work at full blast. And you get them even faster.

The all-round camera for deep-sky and guiding, with 6.4 MP resolution

The Touptek EP3CMOS06300KPA camera is an expert deep sky instrument, but can also be used universally for any other astronomical object. A Sony IMX178 chip and 6.4 Megapixel resolution deliver consistently brilliant colour photos. The CMOS sensor is equipped with state-of-the-art technology, providing superior light sensitivity and extremely low noise - your best shots will be more than good enough to hang on the wall.

The advantages in a nutshell

  • high-sensitivity and low-noise CMOS sensor
  • rolling shutter for fast and brilliant images
  • perfect for deep sky exposures and guiding
  • high resolution and large image field of 3096x2080 pixels
  • 2.4ìm pixels - ideal for high-precision guiding

High-performance CMOS sensor with 6.4 megapixels

The heart of this camera is Sony's IMX178 sensor. It functions using STARVIS and Exmor R technology, which make exposures of faint nebulae possible in previously unimagined ways. But what is behind this? - the special technology involves a back-lit sensor with extremely high sensitivity and less noise. Your exposures provide extremely clear images that are rich in detail. In contrast to conventional sensors, the photodiodes are completely free of any shadowing - that all means more light is available and you will be able to expose faint astronomical objects in a shorter time. The extensive 14 bit dynamic range means you will benefit from enormous contrast, making your deep sky objects uniquely beautiful.

Better photos thanks to the rolling shutter

The CMOS sensor is equipped with a rolling shutter. The image is globally exposed, but every line of the chip is rapidly scanned so light continues to reach the pixels. This increases the sensitivity, reduces the noise of the image, and makes image exposures faster.

State-of-the-art CMOS sensor with higher sensitivity

The heart of this camera is a new sensor from Sony using STARVIS and Exmor R technology which makes it possible to capture images of faint nebulae in an undreamt of way. But what is behind this? The special technology employs a back-illuminated sensor with extremely high sensitivity and producing less noise. Your exposures benefit from a clearer picture with finer details. The photodiodes remain completely free of shadowing, in contrast to ordinary sensors. That means that more light is available, allowing you to use shorter exposures for even faint astronomical objects. You also benefit from a level of contrast that shows your deep-sky objects beautifully.

Better pictures thanks to a rolling shutter

The CMOS sensor is equipped with a rolling shutter. The image is not recorded completely in one go, but one line of the chip is recorded at a time, while light continues to reach the other pixels. This also increases the sensitivity, reduces image noise and makes image acquisition faster.

Our expert comment:

Are you still looking for the right ToupTek camera?

- but don't really know which one you need? - selecting the right ToupTek camera is discussed in the blog article ToupTek - which camera is right for me? How to find out at a glance

(Marcus Schenk)

For Autoguiding, we recommend the free and open source guiding software PHD2. ToupTek cameras now work natively with PHD2 without the need for ASCOM drivers. (when using Windows and since PHD2 version v2.6.6 or v2.6.5dev6)
