The tracking system for Earth and sky photography!
The portable StarLapse mount tracks the movement of the stars or the sun. StarLapse uses the proven technology of the Losmandy GM-8 parallactic mount. However, the StarLapse system does not have a declination axis. Instead, the camera bracket is simply mounted on the hour axis (right ascension axis) after it has been aligned to the north. The precise worm gear of the hour axis then compensates for the rotation of the celestial sphere.
In addition to its use as a mount for astrophotography with a DSLR, StarLapse can also be used very well for video recordings with a moving camera by selecting from nine preset speeds (7.5° to 240° per hour) with which the camera is gently guided around the preset axis of rotation. Instead of a static video, you get an attractive camera pan. You can also create time-lapse recordings, for example: You program your camera to take a photo every minute. At the same time, you move the camera at the solar speed of 15° per hour. If you create a film from the images that shows 30 frames per second, the effective speed is 7.5° per second. This allows you to document a sunset effectively in time-lapse. With StarLapse, you can really be creative!
StarLapse can rotate 360° in both directions, making it suitable for use in both the northern and southern hemispheres. The handbox is easy to use: set the direction of rotation, select one of the nine preset speeds and start the mount's stepper motor at the touch of a button.
Energy consumption is very low, especially when operating StarLapse in slow astrophotography mode. No counterweights or tools are required to set up this mount.
The StarLapse mount from Losmandy is ideal for astrophotography or landscape photography when you want to keep your weight and luggage to a minimum. All components fit comfortably into a small rucksack.
