Better smartphone (astrophotography) photos in no time at all
Do you fancy using your Smartphone as an astro camera every now and then? Why not – today’s image sensors are good enough. And if you want to compensate for the Earth’s rotation, you can mount your mobile on simple camera mounts, such as the Omegon Mount MiniTrack LX3.
But: light pollution also affects smartphone photos. And suitable filters couldn’t be used with Smartphones – until now.
Finally, you can use filters with your Smartphone too!
The Deluxe Smartphone Filter Holder, designed by the Omegon team, fits many smartphone clamps. The 1/4-inch photo screw with a loop is included. The spatula-shaped holder is attached to the clamp using the screw. The long slot allows you to align the filter window with the Smartphone camera. If you don’t already have a suitable clamp, simply use the set Omegon Solar Safe Deluxe Cam.
Why 2-inch filters?
Of course, larger filters are more expensive. But modern Smartphones often have multiple cameras. With a larger filter, all the Smartphone’s cameras can usually see through it at the same time. The larger aperture also helps to avoid obscuring the field of view of ultra-wide-angle cameras.
We recommend screwing the filter into the side between the mounting and the smartphone camera. This reduces the risk of stray light from the side causing a reflection in the image. If you still need protection against fogging, you can screw a sleeve such as the one at Omegon M48 Extension - 20mm onto the other side.
To use a 1.25-inch filter, you can make do with ZWO 1,25" - 2" Adapter Ring.
And best of all: the filter holder is also useful for daytime photography. For example, standard skylight or polarising filters will fit if they have a 48mm filter diameter.
What are you waiting for? Mount your Smartphone on a tripod and take some fantastic Milky Way photos!
