With a polarimeter, we determined the purity of an optically active substance. Since the surface polarization of linearly polarized light through an optically active substance is twisted, may be determined by the degree of rotation of the molecular composition. This is proportional to the concentration of chiral molecules of the substance.

The polarimeter is supplied with observation tubes of length 100 and 200mm and is equipped with a monochromatic filter for 589.3 nm light, with a detachable 230V, 30W lamp and an international sugar scale (° S).
