More about the series Nightstar...

Please note: At present we can only supply these binoculars with the 'Helios' badge instead of 'Omegon'. There is no difference in the technical specification however; they are still of the tried and tested Omegon quality.

Omegon 20x80 Triplet binoculars - binoculars for astronomy and nature watching

These large Omegon 20x80mm triplet binoculars offer the user a high level of optical performance for astronomical observing and nature watching. The large 80mm lens aperture brings in 30% more light than comparable binoculars with a 70mm aperture.
All glass surfaces are fully multi-coated, providing high contrast images. Omegon 20x80 binoculars offer excellent sharpness right up to the edge of the 3.4° field of view, and high light transmission BaK4 prisms are employed.

The optics
These binoculars make use of improved optics. A triplet objective lens is employed here to provide a substantially higher contrast image with its three lens construction. This does a better job of correcting colour aberrations as compared to normal 'achromatic' optics, and even better edge definition is also achieved.

Longer eye relief
Spectacle wearers also benefit from these binoculars as their generous 18mm eye relief means the entire field of view can be seen whilst wearing glasses, without any restriction. The soft rubber eyecups can be folded down. The binoculars have individual focusing plus an additional dioptre adjuster. For comfortable observing, the binoculars should either be supported on a flat surface or mounted on a tripod: The instrument is equipped for this, having a centre rod with a sturdy metal tripod adapter. The large binoculars can be mounted on any standard tripod using the built-in ¼” connecting thread.

Practical observing
The binoculars provide a bright high-contrast image, even when used for nature watching at large distances. The view of a mountain massif, deer at the edge of forest or the sighting of a distant ship at sea - these binoculars offer a wide range of observing possibilities.

They provide an excellent compliment to a telescope for astronomical observing, as sweeping through the star fields of the Milky Way on a dark night is one of the most fascinating ways of observing.

The advantages in a nutshell:

20X magnification and 80mm objective lens diameter

18mm eye relief and hence also suitable for spectacle wearers

triplet objective for superb image quality

sturdy metal tripod adapter with ¼” thread

soft rubber eyecups

multi-coated prisms and lenses for higher contrast

wide field of view

generous interpupillary distance

sturdy carrying case (external dimensions 28x41x16cm)

a weight of only 3170g

Our expert comment:

Binoculars with a host of advantages

The 3-element triplet lens has noticeably better edge sharpness as compared to the cheaper 2-element design. The rotatable eyecups and comfortable eye relief, making the instrument also suitable for spectacle wearers make a positive impression. Delivery includes a tripod adapter and aluminium case.
