This autoguider is a very elegant solution for tracking in astrophotography with long exposure times:
For such shots, you need an additional camera (autoguider) that detects tracking errors of your mount and automatically compensates for them by sending control pulses to the mount.
You will also normally need a laptop or PC on which the autoguider software runs. The term "stand alone" means that no additional computer power is required for this autoguider. The software is hidden in the hand control box and the red light display shows you the camera image and setting options. There is no more practical solution for autoguiding, especially for mobile use with a mirror reflex camera!
The Stand Alone autoguider comes with everything you need: camera, hand controller with display, connection cable (additional USB and ST4 cables also available) and a cigarette lighter cable for your power tank. The Standalone autoguider can also be used in remote mode via a PC. The only thing you need is the optics. You can attach the autoguider with its T2 connection to an off-axis-guider or to a suitable finder, for example. You will find both options under "Recommended accessories".
