Observing star clusters, nebulae and galaxies for yourself
This guide takes you on a journey to the wonders of the night sky: star clusters, nebulae and galaxies. With a pair of binoculars or a small telescope, you can explore the fascinating objects of the universe at first hand.
The guide describes a total of 345 targets, including 110 Messier objects, as well as highlights from the NGC and IC catalogues, plus the most beautiful double stars and the most interesting variable stars. A further 320 objects are also listed, complete with brief descriptions and data.
Over 300 illustrations show the objects exactly as they appear through a telescope. Observers in light-polluted urban areas will find recommendations, as will experienced observers under dark skies, for whom specific challenges have been included.
The Deep Sky Guide is coordinated with the maps in the Deep Sky Travel Atlas. Cross-references in the book allow you to find the correct atlas maps straight away.
The new edition contains additional drawings, updated distance figures and data on binary stars.
The author Ronald Stoyan is the proprietor of the independent German publisher Oculum-Verlag, which specializes in amateur astronomy books.
