Worth it!

( 5 / 5 )

This is a great pair of binoculars. Two eyes are always better than one eye, especially when getting older. This may not be the cheapest thing out there, but this is very good value for the money, it is worth taking the plunge. The build quality is what can be expected, it is as good as it can be. The operation of it is well thought trough. I was initially suspicious about the counter rotating focus rings, I’m not longer that. It is perfectly intuitive, Kowa has done it right. The size and the weight is not too much, it just about fits into my Lowepro Computrekker. Ok, it is rather heavy but it is manageable. You don’t need a cart to haul this around, just the right bag.

On the down side, in my humble opinion, is the color of the exterior, it is a little too bright and you can be seen an mile away, it can be solved with some neoprene camouflage, but you’ll have to make it yourself. The eyepieces’ cups are not as comfortable for me as on some other scopes (comparing with my near 20 year old TSN-82 with 50x). That can be solved with the TSN-ER eyecup kit. Upon inserting the eyepieces you should be careful not to jam the little springs inside.

As for using it in the field, the image is wonderful, very bright and crisp. A pure pleasure use.

I got mine at Astroshop and I’m impressed by their communications, service and prices. The price is good, it is about 1000€ less than here in Sweden. I can highly recommend this pair of binoculars and Astroshop.
