The AC 90/600 telescope's optics are ideally suited to surveying wide fields of view in the night sky. For observing Open clusters, in particular, it works wonderfully!
The 9 centimetre diameter objective lens collects enough light to observe a range of Messier objects. The Messier objects are star clusters, galaxies, planetary nebulae, and supernova remnants captured by the French astronomer Charles Messier (1730-1817) in his catalogue of 'nebulous objects'. Hunt down as many objects in Charles Messier's catalogue as you can!
Of course, the planetary astronomy is also now open to you - observe the rings of Saturn and the moons of Jupiter! The relatively wide field of view of this telescope also makes it especially interesting for observing comets.
This sturdy single-arm altazimuth mount features 360° azimuth and 180° altitude rotation. The Orion VersaGo E-Series Altazimuth Mount is equipped with micro-motion cables on both axes to allow precise aiming, framing and tracking of target objects.
A vertically oriented, narrow dovetail saddle on the VersaGo E-Series Altazimuth Mount accommodates Vixen-style dovetail mounting bars, L-brackets, and instruments equipped with similar style mounting plates. The VersaGo E-Series mount is capable of supporting small telescopes, spotting scopes, and binoculars weighing up to 11 pounds. Some instruments may require an L-bracket for secure coupling (L-bracket sold separately).
The VersaGo E-Series Altazimuth Mount head is supported by three two-section, 1.1" diameter cylindrical aluminum alloy tripod legs. The tripod leg length can be adjusted to hold attached instruments as high as 57.25" and as low as 36". Large wing knobs make it easy to extend and collapse the tripod legs, even while wearing gloves. At the end of each leg, rubber tripod feet can be retracted to reveal spikes for extra stability in the field.
A handy accessory tray provides extra tripod stability, and can also hold up to four 1.25" eyepieces and accessories. A useful built-in bubble level helps make setup quick and easy.
