The LS100MT is a complete telescope for Sun observation in H-alpha light, with a 100mm clear aperture (no central obstruction) and a 714mm focal length. The H-alpha wavelength offers the most impressive way to observe the Sun, revealing prominences at the Sun’s edge, filaments and flares on the surface, and much more. An internal etalon filter achieves a half-width of <0.7 angstroms using the innovative Pressure-Tuner air pressure tuning system.
PT pressure tuner: Fine-tuning on the Etalon filter is provided via an air pressure system. A small change to air pressure within a pressure chamber inside the telescope changes the refractive index of the air, resulting in precise yet effortless adjustment to the H-alpha spectral line. The pressure tuner guarantees a uniform image with no central obstructions and a long-lasting wear-resistant etalon.
The B1800 blocking filter is very well suited to visual solar observation but can also be utilised for solar photography using cameras with a small sensor chip or which use the APS-C format. For cameras with large sensors, a telescope with a larger blocking filter should be used so that the sensor will be illuminated. For solar photography, we generally recommend so-called planetary cameras which work smoothly with this blocking filter.
In keeping with its high-quality lens, the telescope comes with a Feather Touch focuser from Starlight Instruments. It doesn’t get any better! The focuser enables accessories with 2” sleeves, such as a diagonal mirror or a camera adapter to be connected. A blocking filter, which is integrated into the supplied deflecting optics, is essential for solar observation. This allows lenses to be adapted using a 1.25” sleeve or the tightly screwed connection of a camera with a T2 thread.
