The AP 80/500 optics is a triplet apochromat with FPL-53 element. This construction of the objective ensures a colour-pure and sharp image. This is a lot of fun visually, but above all it is ideal for astrophotography of faint nebulae with long exposure times.
Extensive nebula areas and star clusters in particular can be photographed with this optic and a camera with a large sensor. SLR or other system cameras are very well suited for this.
Use a suitable field flattening lens (flattener) so that the image is sharply focussed over the entire area of the sensor. You will find two suitable models from PrimaLuceLab in the accessories section:
In combination with one of these flatteners, the Airy Black 80T is a wonderful photo machine for sky photography - and at a fair price!
Carbon Fibre Tube
This apochromat is well suitable to visual observing but was, in fact, developed especially for astrophotography. Use the advantages of a carbon fibre tube: it is particularly light and so even perfectly suitable for using on smaller mounts. The tube also offers a very high inherent stability and only minimal thermal expansion. These advantages are particularly useful for astrophotography, as the focus remains stable for the whole night. The dew shield is also carbon fibre and can be extended easily. In addition, the tube is lined with black felt.
50,8mm Hybrid-Drive focuser: Often refractors are provided with Crayford focusers suitable for visual use but not for photo applications. In fact, during the long exposures required by astrophotography, this type of focuser can cause camera slippage moving the sensor out of focus. For this reason the AIRY APO65F telescopes comes with the new 50.8mm Hybrid-Drive focuser that adds, under the focuser tube, a rack and pinion thereby maintaining in position even heavy cameras. Below the focuser there's also a locking screw: closing it, you will be sure that your camera will not move any more!
The focuser also features a convenient 1:11 fine focus gear, particularly useful when you need to focus at high magnification. The focuser has a very long ride.
OnAxisLock is the accessories locking system that, compared to those using normal screw, offers a greater clamping force, avoiding any possible flexure (so it's perfect for astrophotography), it does not damage the connected accessory and it perfectly keeps the optical axis of the telescope.
All this thanks to a new locking device with double ring: just rotate manually the appropriate outer ring (designed to allow an easy grip, even with gloves) and you will get a perfect closure!
PLUS system: Two tube clamps are included in the scope of delivery. These are part of the PLUS system from PrimaLuceLab, which offers many adaptation options: Prism rails in Vixen or Losmandy width, with which you can mount the Apo on almost any mount.
