This high-quality Maksutov telescope provides an ideal basis for both planetary and DSO observing.
Its diameter makes it a 'fast' yet portable instrument. The Maksutov-Cassegrain system allows a long focal length to be combined with a relatively short OTA length. The central obstruction in the optics is minimal as the small secondary mirror has been directly vacuum deposited onto the meniscus lens. The meniscus lens gives very good contrast - for example ideal for planetary observing. The lens corrects for spherical aberration and its shape reduces chromatic aberration to a minimum. It comes supplied with a mounting plate.
HEQ-5 SynTrek mount:
The high quality HEQ-5 equatorial mount turns your telescope into a precision instrument for exciting and fascinating astronomical observing. The extensive facilities of the HEQ-5 includes a polar finder scope, which allows you to easily align the telescope in the correct position, aluminium right ascension and declination scales and electric motors on both axes. So you only need to align the equatorial mount on the sky's North Pole before starting observing, and you can then let your telescope track using the motors - also ideal for getting into astrophotography! The mount weighs 7.4 lbs and is much more stable than the less sophisticated EQ-5 mount. The HEQ-5 damps down any induced vibrations much better and much faster.
