The TEC 140FL meets all requirements. It is lightweight, easy to transport and can be used for both visual observation and photography with the highest standards. With the appropriate field flatteners and reducers, a wide range of possibilities is open to you. Due to its optical design, even solar observation is possible – whether with h-alpha filters or white light using a Herschel prism.
- The objective is mounted in a frame made of aluminium, which offers excellent temperature compensation and is both lightweight and stable.
- The lightweight aluminium tube has an anti-reflective coating on the inside and sharply defined apertures. You don't need to worry about collimation either: when the telescope leaves TEC, no further adjustment is necessary.
- Each APO140FL F/7 is equipped with a Starlight Instruments FTF#3545 Feather Touch focuser, which was developed in collaboration with TEC. It is Starlight Instruments' largest rotary focuser with a 9:1 planetary gear for coarse and fine focusing.
The advantage of fluorite glass over the ED glass used in less expensive apochromats is primarily its high transmission, which ensures a significantly brighter image. Anyone who has ever looked through a genuine fluorite apochromat will never forget the crystal-clear, white image.
While glass and ED glass (fluoride) still produce minimal stray light, no stray light can be detected with a fluorite element. This can be demonstrated most impressively with a green laser. The high-energy green beam is clearly visible as a beam when passing through all glass substrates – only when passing through fluorite does the laser beam remain invisible.
The triplet objective is oil-filled and fully encapsulated for the fastest thermal adjustment and to prevent haze and reflections.
Oil-sealing is the best method for mounting astronomical triplet lenses – and for reliable long-term protection of the sensitive CaF2 crystal. It is extremely complex and requires extensive knowledge of materials. This is why this sealing method is only offered by small manufacturers with extensive optical experience and their own production facilities.
