Bought this refractor to play around with and to see how well cheap refractors perform. Conclusion: This is an excellent entry level achromatic refractor!
Very sharp optics with good contrast. It even puts up a decent fight against my 80mm Synta ED scope, except with respect to chromatic aberration.
It is fairly light weight and gives very good views of the Moon, and star tests well with no obvious optical defects. Chromatic aberration is visible but not overly intrusive due to long focal length. Having a slow focal ratio it also does not require very fancy eyepieces to perform well.
Mechanical quality is good, paint work is good; mechanics are simple but workable. Mechanical quality is not up to to the level offered in the premium Vixen scopes, but since this scope sells at fraction of the price of the premium Vixens it is perfectly acceptable.
The included Plössl eyepieces are surprisingly good, and the finder scope is perfectly adequate for its purpose. The bundled prism star diagonal is however of relatively mediocre quality, so I have upgraded it with a decent mirror diagonal.
