The Mighty-Cat Astrograph from Wiillam Optics is a high-quality astrophotography telescope comprising 7 lenses in 2 groups with an integrated focuser (WIFD). The f/3.2 aperture ratio allows for very short exposure times whilst delivering the highest image quality and correction. The illuminated field of view corresponds to that of full-frame cameras.
Thanks to its long tube length and low weight of 4.1 kg, the Mighty-Cat is the perfect apochromatic telescope for travelling. An M48 thread is provided for attaching a camera. Suitable T2 adaptors can be found under ‘Recommended Accessories’. The package includes not only a protective nylon carrying case, but also a specially designed Bahtinov mask. This mask aids focusing and is integrated into the lens attachment.
With the Mighty-Cat 71, you’re not only getting impressive optical performance, but you’ll also be delighted by the beautiful design and finish from William Optics!
At the heart of the optical system is the so-called Petzval design, which ensures a colour-corrected and, above all, flat field of view. No external field-flattening lens (flattener) is required!
Other special features include the field rotator with filter holder, which allows the camera to be rotated, and the tilt flange for perfect collimation of the image plane with the camera’s sensor plane.
Petzval telescopes do not rely on a single, precise focal distance (back focus). Instead, they are designed so that focus can be achieved within a specific range for the working distance, offering flexibility when using different cameras and accessories.
As long as the entire camera setup remains within this range, the focus can be adjusted as usual. If the setup falls outside this range, it may no longer be possible to achieve focus.
Tip: For a setup with 55 millimetres of back focus – which is suitable for most DSLR cameras, for example – the focus point lies between the 0 and 10 marks on the focus ring.
The telescope is equipped with a newly developed carrying handle with a long finder shoe. This shoe clamps the finders and guidescopes from William Optics, but also any other additional optics that are equipped with a rail matching the Vixen/Skywatcher finder base.
The William Optics Internal Focus Design (WIFD) is an innovative and revolutionary design that combines a precise (patented) internal focusing mechanism with the highest quality optics available, offering the ultimate apochromatic refractor for astrophotography. Designed from the ground up to handle even the largest, heaviest, cooled cameras, this optics is uncompromising in its quality. The focuser movement is integrated into the main tube, so no adjustments are visible from the outside.
The user can enjoy the benefits of a conventional focuser with two fine focus controls without having to worry about the limitations normally found with conventional rear-mounted focusers (vignetting). The integrated position indicator window on the focuser allows instant verification of the graduated numerical display.
The focus is compatible with ZWO's EAF.
