More about the series WO Star...
This apochromatic refractor, optimised for astrophotography, consists of four elements in three groups: 2-1-1 configuration. This unique design made of FPL-53 (Ohara) fluorite glass illuminates sensors with a 45 mm diagonal with colour-pure, point-like star images - ideal for full-frame cameras!
The 2.5" focuser with 1:10 reduction and 35 mm focus travel is equipped with an M48 thread. This offers numerous connection options for cameras. For example, a single-lens reflex camera (DSLR) can be connected directly using a bayonet adaptor with M48 thread. Since the correction optics are already integrated into the optical system of the Star 71, there are no problems with optical path lengths, as is otherwise the case when using an external flattener.
The Star 71 apochromat is ideal for photographing large nebulae, such as the Rosette Nebula or Lagoon Nebula (M8), as well as large galaxies such as Andromeda (M31) or the Triangulum Galaxy (M33).
The Star 71 was developed for photography. Therefore, it is not supplied with a diagonal mirror. A normal 2" diagonal mirror cannot be connected, as the back focus of the Star 71 is not sufficient. However, to enable the Star 71 to be used visually, William Optics has developed a special diagonal mirror to which 1.25" eyepieces can be attached as usual. You will find the mirror under "Recommended accessories".
