The LS100MT is a complete telescope for observing the Sun in H-alpha light, with a 100mm clear aperture (no central obstruction) and 714mm focal length. The H-alpha wavelength is the most impressive way of viewing the Sun - it makes solar prominence at the edge of the Sun, filaments and flares on the surface and much more visible. An internal Etalon filter, with its innovative air pressure tuning system, reaches a half width of <0.7 angstrom.
Night sky watching:Thanks to its modular construction, the solar filter can be removed from the telescope with just a few flicks of the wrist. With an optional conversion kit (see “Recommended Accessories”), the 3-lens apochromatic refracting telescope can be used as a telescope for observing and photographing the night sky. The triplet lens with special FPL-53 glass provides a pure-colour image for this. Standard 2-inch zenith mirrors can be used on the conversion kit’s very high-quality R&P focuser. This optional conversion kit is essential for using the telescope at night.
PT pressure tuner: Fine-tuning on the Etalon filter is provided via an air pressure system. A small change to air pressure within a pressure chamber inside the telescope changes the refractive index of the air, resulting in precise yet effortless adjustment to the H-alpha spectral line. The pressure tuner guarantees a uniform image with no central obstructions and a long-lasting wear-resistant etalon.
The B3400 blocking filter is very well suited to solar photography using cameras with very large sensor chips and can also be used for visual solar observation. The blocking filter is built into the focuser, not in the deflection optics as in many other solar telescopes; making this telescope ideally suited to solar photography.
In keeping with its high-quality lens, the telescope comes with a Feather Touch focuser from Starlight Instruments. It doesn’t get any better! The focuser enables accessories with 2” sleeves, such as a diagonal mirror or a camera adapter to be connected. A blocking filter, which is integrated into the supplied deflecting optics, is essential for solar observation. This allows lenses to be adapted using a 1.25” sleeve or the tightly screwed connection of a camera with a T2 thread.
