The LS60MT, in combination with a blockfilter, is a telescope for observing the sun in H-alpha light with a half-width of <0.7 Angstrom.
The special feature of this Allrounder: thanks to its modular design, the Etalon filter can be removed from the telescope in just a few simple steps. The double-lens apochromatic ED refractor then offers a 70 mm aperture with a focal length of 420 mm – a handy but high-quality instrument for observing and photographing the night sky. The ED element made of FPL-51 glass delivers a sharp, colour-corrected, outstanding image.
Standard 2-inch diagonal mirrors or cameras with 2-inch barrel extensions can be attached to the Crayford focuser. With an Amici prism, the telescope can even be used during the day for nature and landscape observations - a true allrounder in the format of a small travel telescope!
But it also offers all the possibilities for use as a solar telescope:
- With an Etalon and blockfilter for observing the Sun in H-alpha
- Without Etalon and block filter but with a Herschel wedge for observation in white light
- With Ca-K filter module for observing the sun in the light of the calcium K line
The advantage: You can decide for yourself which blockfilter you want to buy, as these vary considerably in price.
PT pressure tuner: Fine-tuning on the Etalon filter is provided via an air pressure system. A small change to air pressure within a pressure chamber inside the telescope changes the refractive index of the air, resulting in precise yet effortless adjustment to the H-alpha spectral line. The pressure tuner guarantees a uniform image with no central obstructions and a long-lasting wear-resistant etalon.
The B600 Blocking Filter is well suited for visual solar observation and also for solar photography with cameras with small sensors, such as planetary cameras. For cameras with large sensor chips, you should use a B1200 Blocking Filter.
The diagonal mirrors in which the blocking filter is installed are equipped as standard with a mount for 1.25-inch eyepieces and a T2 connection for cameras.
The delivery includes a transport case. The external dimensions of the case are: 53 x 33 x 17 centimetres.

Our expert comment:
At Lunt telescopes, there are a number of variants with different options. It is possible to find out which model is being offered by looking at the designation.
An important criterion, also reflected in the price, is the size of the blocking filter. There are 3 different blocking filter sizes: 6mm, 12mm and 18mm in diameter. The designations for these are B600, B1200 and B1800 respectively. If there is nothing in the title, then it is an OTA without a blocking filter!
CaK or Ha mean that the instrument has been optimized for the blue calcium line or the red H-alpha line. Over 90% of instruments sold are H-alpha instruments, with the designation Ha.
C or FT refer to the two different focuser versions. C means the standard focuser and FT means an improved model from FeatherTouch.
PT is the designation for instruments with fine tuning that uses air pressure. Non-PT filters have fine tuning that works by tilting. The air pressure version usually provides a somewhat more homogeneous field.
DS or DS50 is the term for a 'double stack'. These instruments have two Etalon filters. This achieves a tighter bandwidth and therefore better contrast.
In addition, you can find 2 numbers in the title separated by a slash. The first number indicates the diameter of the front lens. The second number is the focal length. So a 60/500 telescope would have a 60mm aperture and a focal length of 500mm. The lens diameter is usually also the diameter of the Etalon supplied.
