The LS80MT is a telescope designed for Sun observation in H-alpha light, with an 80 mm aperture and a 560 mm focal length. As it has no central obstruction, the image is exceptionally sharp. The optics can demonstrate their full resolving power!
In H-alpha light, the Sun reveals prominences at the solar limb, as well as filaments and flares on the surface. The observation of the Sun in H-alpha is always impressive and varied! The integrated etalon filter achieves a half-width of less than 0.45 angstroms.
Focusing is achieved via a sturdy 2-inch focuser with a 1:10 reduction ratio.
The standout feature of Lunt’s allround telescopes is their modular design: you can simply remove the H-alpha etalon. This leaves you with a high-quality ED apochromatic telescope featuring special FPL-53 glass for night-time observation and astrophotography. After conversion, you can also observe the Sun in white light, for example by using a Herschel wedge.
PT pressure tuner: Fine-tuning on the Etalon filter is provided via an air pressure system. A small change to air pressure within a pressure chamber inside the telescope changes the refractive index of the air, resulting in precise yet effortless adjustment to the H-alpha spectral line. The pressure tuner guarantees a uniform image with no central obstructions and a long-lasting wear-resistant etalon.
The B1800 blocking filter is very well suited to visual solar observation but can also be utilised for solar photography using cameras with a small sensor chip or which use the APS-C format. For cameras with large sensors, a telescope with a larger blocking filter should be used so that the sensor will be illuminated. For solar photography, we generally recommend so-called planetary cameras which work smoothly with this blocking filter.
Double-Stack: This telescope is fitted with an additional etalon filter, which is positioned behind the first etalon and has its own pressure tuner. This is a latest-generation etalon from Lunt. The combination of the two etalon filters results in a half-width at half-maximum of < 0.28 angstroms.
