In brief:
- Ideal for wide-field observation
- Easy connection of a binocular head
- Compact and portable
The AP 152/900 optics: This 2-element SD is a truly perfect telescope for wide-field observation and high-magnification observation of planets or double stars.
The two-element SD lens with German Gerd Düring design offers excellent chromatic correction for images up to approximately 200x magnification without annoying colour fringing - even bright Jupiter and the Moon remain colour neutral in focus. For this size and aperture ratio, this is almost a miracle of optics.
At around 80 cm in length and weighing 11 kg, the refractor is still easy to transport.
Another special feature is the very large back focus of 220 mm behind the 2" adaptor when the focuser is retracted. This allows the use of any binocular head with a 2" diagonal mirror without the need for a glass path corrector.
Although the telescope is optimised for large-field observation, it is also very well suited for photographing comets, extensive nebulae, globular clusters and galaxies. The fast f/6 focal ratio allows for short exposure times. However, an image field corrector (flattener) is absolutely necessary to obtain sharp stars right to the edge. We recommend the Riccardi Reducer-Flattener 0.75x, which now turns the original f/6 aperture ratio into a true f/4.5 Rich-Field Astrograph.
